Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, who made their acting debuts with Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year (SOTY; 2012), will now be seen together in another Karan Johar movie. Called Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, the film will be produced by their mentor and will be helmed by debutant Shashank Khaitan.
A source close to the production house reveals, “Though they have been seen together in a film before, their pairing is still fresh and young. Since Varun is currently busy shooting for (father) David Dhawan’s directorial (Main Tera Hero), and Alia has some work she needs to finish on 2 States, they will start shooting for this film by October this year.”
Ask Karan about this development and he confirms the news, saying, “We are starting a film with Varun and Alia, which is being directed by Shashank.
This is his debut film; he has also written it. It’s a fun, warm and crazy love story and will be shot extensively in Punjab.” Commenting on the casting, he adds, “They (Varun and Alia) had an unrequited romance in SOTY, so this is technically their first on-screen love story.” The film is expected to release on July,11, 2014
Incidentally, this will be Alia’s third film with Karan Johar’s production house and Varun’s second. 2 States has also been produced by Karan.
