I want to take this opportunity to catch people up on what is going on in my life. In the beginning of this year I got the sense from God that something big was going to happen when I would turn 30 and my ministry class would be over. I was getting the sense that it could be possible that Bakersfield would no longer be my home. After living in the same place for all of my life, it would be a scary change but an exciting one as well. One night I was at GSSM, my ministry class, and we were honoring the 2 teachers that were stepping out and leaving the church they had pastored at for 17 years. They were trusting God to provide direction and provision for their lives. A friend of mine, Dedre, was one of the many that had something to say at the big event that night. She began to prophecy that others would be doing the same thing that the pastors of the class, Pep and Angie, were doing. They would be stepping out and trusting God to lead them into their next season of life. Shortly after she said those words I felt God tell me,

"You are one of those people."

At first I seemed to be ok with the words that God told me. Shortly after that a little fear began to set in and I thought to myself, "man I kind of hope I don't have to do what Pep and Angie are doing."  I mean, I am all about adventure and following God and venturing into the unknown. But what God was telling me to do I had done a year prior and it didn't exactly pan out like I thought it would. Plus, people seemed to be confused by the decision and some were directly effected. Shortly after I turned 30, God spoke to me that it is time to enter a new season. A season where all things were going to be made new. A new season of new adventures, new memories, and provision to take me out of the financial crisis I was in. The thing was, all of this was not going to happen where I was at. It would happen when I would leave my job and begin in a direction to a destination I was unsure of but God knew. God's word was to trust Him that He would provide direction and provision. Up to that point, God had given me many confirmations on His promise of blessing and provision. Fear still gripped me at times on what God was calling me to do. Venture into the unknown. Completely trust God in everything. But like Abraham, I have been promised land and prosperity. I just haven't been given the coordinates yet.

So, I have stepped out and I am trusting God to come through. Since July 31st I have been jobless. I wait on the promises that God has given me. I am trusting that God will provide direction and provision. I will be leaving Bakersfield by September 13th and living in a new city and experiencing a new season. I hold onto the promises of God like Jeremiah 29:11. I am both excited and anxious for the future. I don't have a lot of answers right now. But I have the most important factor of the equation for a time like this, Jesus! The one who owns everything in Heaven and on Earth and He has given it to me. I am going to miss my Garden community and my friends and family when I leave but I am excited and hopeful for the future. I eagerly await the next adventure!!!!

First thoughts on Snowpiercer (2014) Full Movie Online & Free Download

 

I have at last seen Joon-ho Bong's Snowpiercer. I ordered a copy of the French DVD when it looked like the Weinsteins were not going to release the film uncut. The upside is that I've seen the film. The down side is I missed some of the Korean dialog because it wasn't subtitled in English.(It was subtitled in French which mean I got enough of it to get by).

This is not to be considered a real review. If you've seen the film you'll know this is a film that will require long extended discussions. I'm looking forward to seeing Alec during the upcoming Tribeca FIlm Festival so I can discuss some of it with him. I'm also looking forward to long discussions with Mondo, Hubert and everyone else once the film hits theaters on June 27.

For those who don't know the film is about a train that is racing around an ice covered world. It seems an attempt to stop global warming has frozen the planet. All that are left are the people on the train. The rich in the front and the poor in the back. The poor are pissed off and they plan a revolt which they hope will take them to the front of the miles long train.

My first thoughts  on seeing the film were -How could anyone (the Weinsteins) even consider chopping 25 minutes out of it. Where the hell did they think that you could cut anything out of it? Its a ludicrous idea on the face of it.

The second thing was that I was amazed that anyone would release the film, never mind make it. The fact that we got this film truly boggles my mind.

 Welcome to Jersey Boys, the hit Broadway musical about Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons, is getting the cinema treatment. The film version, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Christopher Walken and Vincent Piazza, hits theaters on June 20, and a new trailer was released today. One thing I spotted immediately in the trailer was a scene that was clearly filmed on the Warner Bros. New York Street backlot set in Burbank, California.

The below screenshot was taken from the trailer. As the movie has not yet been released, I don't know exactly what is taking place in the scene, but it looks like the band must be arriving to perform at a concert. Notice how with a little movie magic the film designers were able to change the background to appear differently from what the actual background looks like. Dear Brothers and Sisters: Through the Sacraments of Initiation, we receive new life in Christ. This life we carry in earthen vessels, however, and we still experience temptations, suffering, and death.

A new trailer is here for the forthcoming release of director Doug Liman's newest live-action manga blockbuster, Edge Of Tomorrow. Fans will be able to check out the film on June 6th and provided that movie lovers approve, the film should set some precedence as Liman preps to helm the live action vidgame adaptation for the previously annouced Splinter Cell movie.

I’m not a writer who writes to music, but I’m very inspired by music. I find musicians to be absolutely fascinating because they live outside of the bounds of what we consider everyday society. They can make up their own rules. There’s something very sensual about that—the art and the anarchy coming together to make something that’s worthy of fantasizing about.

Some of my best ideas come to me when I’m driving and listening to music. My mind begins to wander, expanding my plot, answering the questions that I’ve been stuck on for my characters, and then I either wind up voice texting myself my ideas or scribbling a scene down furiously in the work parking lot.

I don’t remember what song sends me off into my inspiration, so I put this together after NIGHT MOVES was written. Soul Divider could probably be considered classic rock, so I kept with that theme, for the most part, with a few newer songs sprinkled in because they’re trying to make a comeback. I know that I do my best thinking listening to Bon Jovi, so that’s why they dominate this playlist.

A Million Ways to Die in the West reads like a novelisation of a Bob Hope film which is odd because it’s actually a novelisation of a Seth MacFarlane film. Seriously though if this film had been made in the 1950’s there would’ve been only one actor up for consideration for the lead: Bob Hope. No comedian has ever got as much mileage out of playing the coward. His signature heroic coward starred in film after film like The Princess and the Pirate, Casanova's Big Night and The Paleface wisecracking his way out of every tight situation until he’s eventually backed into a corner and forced to draw off the bravery that’s been buried within him all the time, at which point he gets the girl and the film’s pretty much over. It’s predictable. But there can be fun in predictability. It’s like on TV when the guest star walks on stage with a cream pie in his hand. You know it’s going to go in someone’s face. You just don’t know how exactly it’s going to play out. But you would be disappointed if someone didn’t get a pie in the face.

 Welcome to Maleficent. They are from the lovely people at Hot Topic who I had the privilege of spending time with today (Friday, April 11), previewing their new, limited edition, fashion collection collaboration with Disney, inspired by, you guessed it, Maleficent.

Once Upon A Blog was also invited to interview the design team and so, amid props from the movie (that Disney wouldn't let me photograph for all the usual legal reasons, although I am allowed to describe them... so more on those later), I got to talk fairy tales with people who have designed a modern fashion collection that aims to exude an aura of fairy tales with teeth. Boy did they succeed!

The collection is seriously gorgeous - lots of black on black textures with elegant lines and a dark-magic edge, inspired by Maleficent's costumes and props. (There are a couple of light and pretty Aurora-inspired pieces too.) I can't wait to show you - and I will very soon! - See more at.

I first heard the Sex Clark Five on one of the great "Teenline" CD-R compilations of obscure power pop that the Hyped 2 Death record label put out. I found many life changing songs on that series of comps, but the Sex Clark Five's song, "I Want You Mine," was my favorite. I especially like that this group of oddballs from 1980s Alabama created a sound that was mostly a lo-fi repro of British Invasion nirvana, but added that touch of jittery new wave that made it original. The SC5 also had a great Peel session cover of The Byrds' "She Don't Care About Time," which partially inspired me to do my own version on the first Title Tracks record. Now, here's my version of the SC5 song that I tortured many a bandmate with in the van over the years with countless repeated listenings.

I knew the moment I bit into one I just had to have them. I craved them, longed for them, dreamed about them (okay, I know it's a little weird, but that is who I am)!!!
Every month when the order was due, I would search and search to see if anyone else had them ordered so I could split the case, because they could get rather pricey-if ya know what I mean!

Then on tragic day, I couldn't find any on the order page, what I am I suppose to do now????? I have ruined my family, ruined I say, they expected them, wanted them, NEEDED THEM, however, I don't think they were dreaming about them like I was!

So, I broke down and ordered an entire case just for them, us, ME!!! In days, they were gone, depleted I can't express my true sorrow in words, you just had to be there, but there was a lot of comforting and hugging rubbing of the back with the kind words it is going to be okay..... then a long sigh, because really what do you say next??????

After much thought we have decided to take down all of our posts.  We started this blog to try and open peoples eyes to the problems with our local government.  I feel that we have lost sight of the real goal in mind.  I have been in law enforcement for the past 30 years, retired in fact from local law enforcement.  I have since moved from Randolph County and also the state of NC.  I have been gone from here a couple of years now and I am not in touch with things as I once was.  This blog has brought alot of trouble for people that truly had nothing to do with it.  I feel that it is in the best interest to just let the people of Randolph County make their own minds up on who to vote for.  I know that many of you believe that Mr. Hicks is behind this blog, but you are sadly mistaken.  You also think that it is from a disgruntled, fired deputy.  You couldn't be farther from the truth.

A few years ago a deputy did in fact come to me with the idea for a blog like this and after hearing what they were going through and seeing it first hand in my years there, decided enough was enough.  Maynard Reid is not perfect by any means.  He is not the same man he was before he was elected sheriff.  His men and women used to look up to him, and some still do.  I believe that he has let power get to his head and ruin a good person.  Eric Hicks is also not perfect. He does however have alot of good ideas and is very motivated to make positive change for this county.  Both candidates have their strengths and weaknesses.

This decision does not come easy.  I have been told of former deputies not being able to get jobs because of  rumors that they are involved with this blog somehow, among other things.  If you only knew, it would blow your mind I'm sure.  I knew this election was going to get very heated, and it has.  I just feel this blog is no longer worth the trouble it has caused for the innocent people.  The citizens of Randolph County know the truth.  It is up to them to open their own eyes and see the big picture.  The deputies of the Randolph County Sheriffs Office are some of the best you will ever know.  It is not their fault that bad politics gets in the way of them being able to perform their duties.  I am sorry if any of them were offended by this blog.  It was as much for them as it was for anyone else.  Please know that this does not come from any threats by Maynard or fear.  I make this decision based solely because I do not feel that it is needed anymore, and maybe it never was.

I would like to thank the supporters of this blog and also say that there is hope.  I may still come back and chime in on some things.  To the citizens, never give up, make you're vote count no matter who you decide.  To the deputies and officers, also never give up.  We all took an oath and I know that many of you still believe in helping people and take the job very seriously.  No matter who is sitting in that corner office, you are the backbone of the agency.  Without you, there would be nothing.  Stay the course.  Be diligent in your duties and stay safe out there.

I suppose I took the summer off. I changed jobs which obviously requires adjustment (and has an IT Dept that monitors my computer stuff so blogging has to happen at home instead of while at work. ha.).   

Socially we've been super busy trying to get our new Lake Martin Young Professional group up and going. It has been so much fun seeing the young people want to breathe new life into our hometown. AC for LIFE!! Move to Alexander City, we've are making things happen!

We celebrated Memorial Day hard. Real hard. It took me roughly a week to come back from it. When  I recall the dance moves I busted out a party that weekend I cringe in embarrassment. Hiya classmates, applicants, current GSBers, MBAers from other programs, envious Stanford undergrads, and Derrick Bolton -

Thanks for reading and for all your awesome emails and comments. Whenever I get an email addressed to this blog, I get a warm and fuzzy feeling in my heart that brings back delightful memories of my time in Palo Alto at the GSB and that brings more appreciation to the amazing relationships and opportunities I still have because of the GSB.

Stanford GSB offers the awesome opportunity to leave daily professional activities and explore businesses and markets in a quasi-academic environment. Quasi because the MBA experience is constantly interjected with case discussions led by people out there running businesses, guest speakers bringing up-to-date market information onto campus, and discourse among classmates who are themselves business leaders and operators, past current and present.

Academic because yeah, you are going to learn Black-Scholes option pricing model from Scholes. You are also going to learn NPV, which I have sadly seen very few places outside of a classroom. Oh yeah, and you'll read The Jungle if you're lucky (and Malcolm Gladwell if you're not!)

Please take my prior posts (especially the debbie downer ones) as in-the-moment frustrations along an awesome journey from my pre-MBA life to the GSB and out the other end, and let me just reassure you -- it is worth it.

The GSB costs a pretty penny and forces you to quit your job and relocate to the 'burbs of Silicon Valley, but I wouldn't take back any of it. The only advice I would give my self of a few years ago is -- chin up, smile big, release the worry, and enjoy. For serious.

Last week one of my best friends had twins. Twins! I can't even wrap my head around that. I still think having one is a full-time job. We decided to make a fun day out of visiting the new babies. We'll take any excuse to be tourists in our own town.

On Saturday we headed straight to the hospital anxious to see our new friends. Crosbi proudly kept telling us we were going to see "two babies!" Even she realized twins are not something you see everyday.

Why?
Why do we sustain a school calendar predicated on an outdated agrarian society of planting and harvesting cycles?

Why are we still teaching subjects in high school, in which knowledge has grown exponentially (i.e. Science, History...) within the same time constraints of 7,200 minutes (40 minute periods x 180 days of school) as we did fifty years ago?

Why do we continue to organize learners in grades based on their age instead of on their abilities?

Why are legislative bodies appropriating funds for public schools in arcane distribution formulas (equally) that sustain existing achievement and opportunity gaps instead of providing money based on needs and the ability to generate revenue (equitably)?

Why are schools marching forward bearing much the same instructional infrastructures that were prevalent fifty years ago, despite the advent of technology and the growth in brain research?

Why are a small group of publishers and corporations exercising such a vast and disproportionate voice and heavy hand in the policies and paths of public education?
